About Us

The Grove Street Tavern was just an idea thrown around in early 2017. When owners Brian Levesque and Paul Martin first eyed the establishment on 53 Grove St., it took a matter of minutes before the two Silver City childhood friends envisioned their very own sports pub.

“It started as a business venture where we were initially talking about investing in properties,” Levesque said. “We kind of tossed the idea around … something we should do and look into down the road. I called Paul [Martin] to open up a pub. His first thing he said was ‘You’re crazy’, but he called me back and said ‘Let’s do it.’ We took off from there.”

Eight months of construction culminated into the newly-formed Grove Street Tavern, formerly known as the King Philip Café and the Billy Club.

The restaurant pub, which houses three apartment units above it, was stripped down to the studs, re-insulated, new electrical put in place as well as bathrooms that were gutted down to nothing. Most of the renovations were done by Martin. The process consumed four to five days a week for both Levesque and Martin,  who each have full-time jobs beside their restaurant business.

The Grove Street Tavern menu features, not only 19 different style pizzas made with fresh dough prepared daily, but a wide variety of tasty goodies. There’s beef burgers and sandwiches, many appetizers, kale soup, entrée dishes, stuffed quahogs and fish and chips served daily.

Grove Street Tavern’s main attraction is the weekend menu.

They serve fresh seafood, including their specialty fried seafood with servings big enough for two people. Other seafood items are the baked seafood trio and the fried clams and scallop combo.

“Seafood is very big here and we only run it on the weekend,” said Levesque, who works for a seafood distributor in Boston. “We offer a specialty menu of clams, scallops and different fish to introduce to the city. It is the freshest in the city.”

Martin added, “When we focused on seafood, it changed things. Things were good and we were building slowly. The focus on the seafood menu took us to a different level. We have really great bar pizza here. The price is right for Taunton and it really did take us to another level.”

There are also salads and a kid’s menu, which includes pizza, burgers, chicken tenders, Mac and Cheese and fish and chips.
